i have to be an adult now?
job interview number one, went as follows...
i woke up, spiffified myself, and got to macy's roughly twenty minutes early because i was convinced the alleged "executive offices" would be up some hidden stairwell and i would be wandering around for hours trying to find it. but, although the employee... er, excuse me, retail sales associate was a bit turned around and confused when i asked her where the executive offices were ("Executive? We have those?"), she eventually found them and took several minutes explaining where she was pointing, even though i saw the sign before she did.
the office was tiny and old, and a man with a fantastic mustache asked me very cheerfully what i needed. i could possibly be a lost or disgruntled customer who happened to accidentally bypass the bathrooms. i sat around waiting for lisa and listened to other employees talk about the woes of retail existence.
when lisa arrived, she was a short woman with a handshake like a floppy fish. i smiled and was friendly, but was secretly hoping she wouldn't kill me once we entered her windowless office. she asked me a lot of questions--something tells me they do this at interviews--and seemed pleased with my customer service/retail experience.
at the end of the interview, she informed me that they didn't have any openings.
...
if anything, it was a great experience?
also, this morning, i thought i had lost my NRA hat, had a small heart attack, and then sprinted downstairs, Polly at my heals, to answer the door. it was a UPS man who had clearly been expecting me to be a ninety-year-old woman but instead got a 22-year-old-who-looks-like-she's-16 and didn't quite know what to do with himself. i understood "Karen" and "sign," followed shortly by a "see you later."
maybe next time i should wear make-up.
Jamie out.

because you've been asking for an update...
Flashback to the days when I was in high school and felt the need to post a new one every single day of my life…
Enjoy.
what was the last thing you drew a picture of?
a squiggly line. I have talents you can’t control.
who wakes you up in the morning?
my obnoxious cell phone… and less obnoxious boyfriend.
what should you be doing?
obtaining a job, probably.
who was the last girl/guy to hurt you?
I’m invincible, it’s okay.
will you be home tonight?
what, with this mad social life I have going on? Ludicrous.
would you go out in public looking like you do now?
I just did… what are you trying to say?
do you like the person you are becoming?
What doesn’t kill you only makes you stronger.
do you miss your past?
I miss April a lot.
when you say you don't care, do you mean it?
yes. I may be annoyingly indecisive, but I honestly don’t care.
what did you do yesterday?
absolutely nothing of any significance.

absolutely nothing of any significance.
I also finished reading the first Harry Potter book. Again.
what did you do today?
peeled wallpaper. Ate myself sick at Old Spaghetti Factory.
do you like writing stories or reading them better?

peeled wallpaper. Ate myself sick at Old Spaghetti Factory.
do you like writing stories or reading them better?
That is… an incredibly difficult question to answer.
Probably reading because I can more easily escape my own world and mind in someone else’s.
do you like long car rides or do they bore you?
My parents consider long car rides to be a fun weekend activity.

My parents consider long car rides to be a fun weekend activity.
I grew up on them.
I love them.
are you hard to make conversation with?
I hate small talk, what does that tell you?
Whose myspace did you last look at?
people still use myspace?

what was the last song that you listened to?
Something from the Holes soundtrack.
Because I’m awesome.
do you eat meat?
om nom nom.
single or taken?
Taken. Rawr.
you're going on a road trip for a week, who are the two people you'd bring?
what, only two?? Dang it….

If you woke up naked next to the last person you texted what would your reaction be?
(Dylan) I would wonder how much alcohol was involved and then tell him that if he tried to make me abort our baby, I would jump off a bridge with his drugs.

Southern California. I Love You.
Every day is sunny and gorgeous. My parents' house is amazing. My dog is the best friend a girl could ask for. And my neighbors are ludicrous. From pools and athletes, to rottweilers and guns, just sitting in my room can be pretty entertaining. The people who live behind us have an outdoor sound system. We like to compete with one another to see who can play our music the loudest. They win a lot. I'm not too choked about it.
My computer has seen better days. It is currently being held together with tape, and every few days it likes to give me the blue screen of death. Other than that we're getting along pretty well. I came home, opened it, and haven't closed the screen since. The hinges might crumble into oblivion if i decided to try just one more time.
Other that what has happened in the past month or so (graduation, new boyfriend, and moving), not a lot has been going on. I bought a new phone and got a new plan. I'm applying for all sorts of different jobs and getting advice from fellow filmmakers on where I should set my sights at the moment. And I'm patiently waiting for friends to visit me next month while my parents are in Israel (without me... boo)... and for Tasha to move here in July.
Stoked.
I don't think I will need alone time ever again after these next several weeks.
Ever.

Take me
When the rivers run red
When my soul begins to bleed
When I can't see myself alone
And standing at your feet
I want you so bad
I need you so bad
I want you so bad
Lord take me now
When the forest is dead
When my heart begins to falter
To stop beating in my hands
It takes a thousand steps to know
I'm walking in your plan
You want me so bad
Cause I need you so bad
Oh you want me so bad
Lord take me now.
When my soul begins to bleed
When I can't see myself alone
And standing at your feet
I want you so bad

In The Sun by Joseph Arthur
I pictured you in the sun wondering what went wrong
And falling down on your knees asking for sympathy
And being caught in between all you wish for and all you seen
And trying to find anything you can feel that you can believe in
May God's love be with you
Always....
May God's love be with you
I know i would apologize if i could see your eyes
'Cause when you showed me myself, you know, i became someone else
But i was caught in between all you wish for and all you need
I pictured you fast asleep
A nightmare comes
You can't keep awake
May God's love be with you
Always...
May God's love be with you
'Cause if i find
If i find my own way
How much will i find
If i find
If i find my own way
How much will i find
I'll find you
You...
I don't know anymore
What it's for
I'm not even sure
If there is anyone who is in the sun
Will you help me to understand
'Cause i been caught in between all I wish for and all I need
Maybe you're not even sure what it's for
Any more than me
May God's love be with you
Always...
May God's love be with you
And falling down on your knees asking for sympathy
And being caught in between all you wish for and all you seen
And trying to find anything you can feel that you can believe in

and the Olympics take off
This weekend was weird and great at the same time.
Friday was my last day at my practicum until after spring break. It was a long day, but pretty exciting once I got home.
The caf just opened a new lounge area where the "Asian" seating area used to be. It's pretty nice--TVs, couches, etc. They hosted a big event for the opening ceremonies of the Olympics. I went and filmed a bit. Talked to Toph for the first time. It was weird, a little bit... but not too bad. Later that night, Dave M. and Sara B. had a double bubble chewing contest in my apartment. Heather had about four hundred year old double bubble (a massive tub of it). Dave and Sara have been stopping by all year because they love the gum, for some reason. So on Friday they had a competition to see who could chew the most gum. They finished the bucket... 70 pieces between the two of them. Crazy kids.
On Saturday, Heath, Sara, Heidi, and I went into downtown to check out the Olympic festivities. It was raining, and cold... and we went in without a plan. We could have been a lot more organized and covered a lot more ground, but it was still pretty sweet. Most of the roads were closed off and the crowds were insane. Just a few hours earlier there had been a protest at The Bay where people had thrown rocks and paint at their windows and the SWAT team had to come in. Later we saw it on the news and one of the "anarchists," as they called themselves, was really angry that the police had guns--as if this gave them every right to deface property. Um, hello?? They're police/SWAT! Of course they have guns!
After seeing that, we went to the art museum in Robson square because it was free. We tried to go to the aboriginal pavilion but we missed the matinee show, so then we went to the Russian pavilion in the science museum. It was pretty cool, although there wasn't much to do. We ran out of time to see the torch, so we walked to the free train, and then from there walked to Heather's siblings' apartment for dinner and otherwise good times. All in all we spent 15 hours downtown. Pretty crazy and tiring, but fun.

oh canada
hokiedina, i have some cool stories for you.
as you probably know, the olympics are being held in vancouver this year. weeeell it has been quite great lately.
the russian figure skaters are practicing in abby, so heidi and i drove down the other day to see them. for free. no big deal. they let you in for twenty minutes at a time. well we were at the end of the line, so by the time we got in there weren't any seats left. i was content to stand at the back, but heidi talked to a volunteer and she ran off to find us seats. a few minutes later she came back and said that there were two seats left in the VIP section.
no big deal.
so we got to sit in the VIP section, directly behind the coaches, a couple rows from the ice, in the middle of a ton of russian spectators. and, to top it all off, the man sitting next to me spoke english pretty well, so he told us things that the coaches said and joked around with us a little bit. it was excellent.
we saw Ekaterina Bobrova and Dmitri Soloviev, one of the ice dance couples. so they didn't do a lot of jumps, but they have some really cool lifts and excellent footwork. one of their numbers is really cute--very russian. i am torn between rooting for my country or the nice russians who let us watch them practice.
then today, i went to my practicum, a little bummed because the torch was being run through today and i couldn't go with heath and the robson boys to watch. but as soon as i got to work, my boss invited me to go see it with him and his wife. so we went out at about 9:30 and got a spot right by where one of the torch exchanges was. and thanks to miss tashayar, i had a disposable camera in my purse. excellent.
i'm so stoked on this olympic business. too bad we're having almost record high temperatures and they're having to ship in snow. hah. oh Canada...

Practica
Heyo,
I just got back from my practica so I thought I would write up a quick update for you all. It’s the end of my third week working for David V. and I have logged over sixty hours so far. I’m pretty pleased with what he’s been having me do. Right now we’re putting together a documentary for a program called Salts, which is out of Victoria. I spent a lot of time going through interview footage, just cutting it down and understanding the story. Now I’m cutting down the B-roll footage and will soon be cutting together my own section. We started with around fifty hours of footage and will need to cut it down to a forty minute film by next Friday.
Other than that, today I helped him polish off the final edits on a couple Kaltire Olympic commercials that will be airing soon. I have also helped him film an interview and met a member of the band Swollen Members–a co-writer for a show he and my supervisor are working on.
I’m so stoked about this internship. Today while we were waiting for the commercials to export numerous times, my boss and I talked about life, school, God, and the power of prayer. His big advice so far about this industry, beyond getting connections and being willing to work crazy hours for no pay just to learn and get to know important people, is to pray. I really appreciate him. He has a lot of knowledge and is still humble. He knows that he doesn’t know everything–there is always room to grow and to be a student. In this industry, you should always be in a student mindset.

In this industry, you should always be in a student mindset.

raindrops
I broke up with Toph yesterday.
That's all I have to say about that.
Tasha's laptop was stolen yesterday.
Pray please.
All of our films were on it.
We don't have any copies of the files.
That's all I have to say about that.
I do not know
Where does it go
When it goes
Suddenly though
Everything’s slow
Round each corner there’s a chance
People searching glance to glance
Moving bout real fast
Like insects and fish when they’re scared
And they sing the same old song
Though it’s been so very long
They sing, raindrops falling on my head
But that doesn’t mean that I am dead

dreams, dreams, dreams
new dream!
tasha showed up at my door one day, looking very frazzled (but very attractive, obviously) and said, "JAMIE! thank God! no one at [my school] will take their clothes off for me! will you pose nude for me?!"
clearly i did. it wouldn't have been a decent dream had i refused.
pictures got taken, in all their nude glory, and tasha had the sudden idea that we should go show them to toph. i also thought this was a fan-crappin-tastic plan, so we rushed over to toph's room and proceeded to show him our artistry. he, however, was not impressed. he actually got ridiculously angry and threw the stack of prints out his third floor window and they fluttered all over campus.
i had a minor heart attack.
i will notify you the next time i have a good dream

vandas
Why hello there. Great things are happening in the life of me, that's for sure.
Well... not in all aspects but let's not dwell on communication issues.
As of last Monday, I have an internship with David Vandas, a local director/producer/editor/screenwriter. I work for him 24 hours a week, editing for the most part. It's pretty great. And my professor is also offering to hook me up with editing house contacts around my parentals' home. Excellent.
So basically, I must now become accustomed to early mornings. The only time I have gotten up before seven this regularly is back when I went to Disney World... and that year Freedom's Song went crazy in high school and had mad rehearsal times on Sundays.
In other news, the California road trip for Spring Break is almost completely official. Heidi has tentatively said yes to going. I really want to go!!
That's all for now.

Mr. Grinch
i had never read these lyrics before tonight. however, i wore my mr. grinch socks today and decided to find out what the majority of the song was actually saying. if you have never read the lyrics, or just need a reminder, please have your day enhanced by this moment.
You're a mean one, Mr. Grinch,
You really are a heel,
You're as cuddly as a cactus,
You're as charming as an eel, Mr. Grinch.
You're a bad banana with a greasy black peel!
You're a monster, Mr. Grinch,
Your heart's an empty hole,
Your brain is full of spiders,
You've got garlic in your soul, Mr. Grinch.
I wouldn't touch you with a thirty-nine-and-a-half foot pole!
You're a foul one, Mr. Grinch,
You have termites in your smile.
You have all the tender sweetness
Of a seasick crocodile, Mr. Grinch.
Given the choice between the two of you
I'd take the seasick crocodile!
You're a rotter, Mr. Grinch,
You're the king of sinful sots,
Your heart's a dead tomato splotched
With moldy purple spots, Mr. Grinch.
You're a three decker sauerkraut
and toadstool sandwich with arsenic sauce!
You nauseate me, Mr. Grinch,
With a nauseous super "naus",
You're a crooked dirty jockey
And you drive a crooked hoss, Mr. Grinch.
Your soul is an appalling dump heap
Overflowing with the most disgraceful assortment of rubbish imaginable
Mangled up in tangled up knots!
You're a foul one, Mr. Grinch,
You're a nasty wasty skunk,
Your heart is full of unwashed socks,
Your soul is full of gunk, Mr. Grinch.
The three words that best describe you are as follows, and I quote,
"Stink, stank, stunk!"

just when you thought i was cool...
most embarrassing moment of my life.
i was in toph's room and all of these people kept coming in to say hi to him and his roommate. it became a massive group of people who i really didn't know. it was fun, though. so i was just standing there, leaning against the wall... i'm not kidding, i was not moving AT ALL. i wasn't talking, or moving my arms, or shifting my weight. i wasn't doing ANYHING when my ankle said, "hey you know, i don't like being upright and in fact, i haven't rolled in a while so let's get this show on the road."
recap: i was not moving a muscle in my body when my ankle rolled and i toppled to the ground.
the room went silent.
*crickets*
"did that actually just happen?" says Tia.
"who's been drinking?" says Tom.
it was even worse than that time i accidentally flashed an entire car of Trinity students.
i'm such a graceful person, it's redonk.

oh the opportunities
alright so here's the deal.
Finale Editworks was a no-go, which was pretty discouraging. however, today i met with my adviser/film prof, and he has three practicum opportunities lined up for me. one with a local filmmaker, one with a colorist, and one heading up my own film with the little prodigies in his digital filmmaking class.
pray pray pray! i really want the one with the local filmmaker. he'd be the type to whip me into shape and teach me an obscene amount of editing skillz.

back at it
i am back in canada, ridiculously early.
thus far all i have done is:
hang out with heidi
watch a crap load of harry potter and star trek
and try to get in contact with Finale Editworks.
i'm not sure how i feel about cooking for myself again.
i lack the motivation to do anything productive.
unfortunately.
that will hopefully be rectified this afternoon.
